Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if a board & train is the right fit for my dog?
All dogs entering our program will be extensively screened to ensure that they are a good fit before enrolling. To get started, send an email with your goals, priorities, and information about your dog to info@wagmore.dog. One of our certified trainers will then set up a phone call to discuss your goals in more detail, gather more information about your dog's current behaviors, and together we will decide if we are a good fit for each other!
  • Why should I choose a board & train program?
Board and train programs provide accelerated learning with multiple skills being introduced and reinforced in just a few short weeks. Since our trainers are certified and experienced with board and trains, the reinforcement your dog receives throughout the day is more consistent than what the average owner can provide at home. The follow-through training when your dog returns home is vital to the success of the program, so we include in-home follow up lessons with every board & train program. WagMore stands above the rest with our programs as they are offered in home environments (never a kennel), so the transfer over to your home is seamless. We take a limited number of dogs at a time so that your pup receives individual attention and ample training sessions throughout the day. And most importantly, our training methods ensure that your pup will be safe, happy, and treated like one of our own pups during their entire stay.
  • What training methods do you use?
We utilize positive reinforcement based techniques grounded in science to help open communication lines between humans and their dogs. We will never use fear or intimidation to train, including shock collars, choke chains, or prong collars, during any training program. We believe that all good realtionships are built on trust, mutual respect, and love, and that our relationships with our dogs should be no different!
  • Will I be updated on my dog's progress during their stay?
Of course! Formal training updates will be sent twice a week, but we often send photos and videos at least every other day. We prefer to communicate via text, as it's easier to send a quick picture and update in between training sessions, but we're happy to email instead if that's easier for you. Your dog may also make an appearance on our Instagram and Facebook pages so be sure to follow us for some cute surprises!
  • Can I visit my dog during their stay?
For programs longer than one week, we are usually happy to set up a short visit for you to come see your pup. But we caution all pet parents that visits can be stressful for young dogs as they get excited to see you, and then have to watch you leave again.
  • My puppy is too young to receive all of their vaccinations. Are they still elligible for a puppy camp program?
Yes! We follow the puppy socialization guidelines set forth by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviorists. They recommend that puppies start socializing with people, enrvironments, stimuli, and other vaccinated dogs 7 days after their first round of puppy shots. We also take extra pecautions such as not walking puppies in areas heavily trafficked by other dogs such as pet stores and parks, wiping paws when they return from potty breaks, and ensuring the other dogs in our care are always up to date on their vaccinations.
  • Can my dog participate if they are not friendly off-leash with other dogs?
Unfortunately at this time, we can only accept dog-friendly dogs into our board and train programs.
  • Can my dog stay for less than 7 nights?
In order to start building strong training habits for our board and train dogs, the minimum length of program we offer is one week.
  • My dog doesn't need any training. Can they still board with you?
Unfortunately no, we only offer board and train programs and not regular boarding.
  • Where is your facility?
All board & train programs take place in the homes of our certified trainers. Our trainers live in Melville and Miller Place.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payment in the form of credit card, cash, or check.
